(Note Dues Increase for 2026)

The YTHS Board is most appreciative of the support of our membership over the years, and we are grateful to you for your help and willingness to keep YTHS financially sound. It is with reluctance that we find it necessary to increase our dues; there has not been an increase in over ten years. Meanwhile, the printing and mailing costs for Geppo, the Members’ Anthology, and special books given to all members each year have greatly increased. This year we are excited to include the first volume of Phillip R. Kennedy’s four-volume series of Season Word Handbooks as a membership gift. Another benefit available only to members is unconditional acceptance of submissions to Geppo (the quarterly haiku work-study journal), with opportunities for recognition by voting members and haiku experts in “Dojin’s Corner.” Moreover, members and guests have private access to presentations and workshops on Zoom, plus invitations to local YTHS gatherings in California.

To keep the cost of membership as low as possible, we are offering a special rate for those members who choose to receive Geppo in email as a PDF. This choice has a larger benefit to our planet Earth by saving trees.

The Board will still offer a choice for US members to receive a printed copy of Geppo for an added cost.

We hope you will understand the necessity of this decision.

Thank You,

YTHS Board Members

If you have been a dues-paying member of YTHS and need to determine your current status, contact Jeannie Rueter, Membership Coordinator, at (yths.jeannier@yahoo.com).
Membership in the society gives you a world of haiku practice and appreciation through these member benefits:

  • Members receive Geppo, the quarterly work-study journal. Members receive Geppo as a PDF. Certain membership categories can also receive a print version, as detailed below.
  • A member may submit up to 2 (two) haiku for each issue of Geppo, which are published as submitted, but without the member’s name. Members are encouraged to vote for up to 10 (ten) commendable haiku from the previous Geppo issue. In this way writers can learn by studying the work of others and by the response to their own work. Haiku earning the most votes are reprinted in the next Geppo with the author’s name.
  • Members have the privilege (with approval) of posting up to ten haiku and up to five haiga on the Yuki Teikei website.
  • Members meet once a month except in October, in various locations usually in or within driving distance of San Jose, California. At these gatherings attendees write haiku and celebrate the haiku life. The meetings are often held at facilities with beautiful settings. Programs for the meetings feature the fascinating literature, history, and world of haiku and associated arts.
  • A Members’ Anthology is published annually.  Members may submit haiku from their previous year’s work. Each member receives a print copy of the Anthology. YTHS publications from previous years are also available for purchase.
  • An annual Haiku Retreat is held each Fall at the Asilomar Conference Center, on the seacoast of the Monterey Peninsula.
  • Society membership dues are for a calendar year and are due on January 1st. Members who renew late will receive PDF versions of any back issues of Geppo for the calendar year.
  • Bylaws of the Society are provided here.
