Ginko in Henry W. Coe State Park, led by Roger Abe. Gathering place: meet in Gilroy at 9 AM. Directions: 101 to Gilroy, east on Leavesley Road, right on Arroyo Circle and left into Outlet Stores; assemble in parking lot by McDonalds (8390 Arroyo Circle). Coffee, restrooms, observation tips, last minute carpooling. Travel: east on Leavesley, left on New Ave, right on Roop Road to Henry Coe Hunting Hollow Entrance (4826 Gilroy Hot Springs Road), about 20 minutes. Go slow to see good things on the way. Park/Hike: Parking fee $6/$5 seniors, self pay with iron ranger. Short out and back hike (mostly flat) for hikers. There are a few picnic tables near the parking lot or just drive around on the nearby country roads for scenic views. Possible side trips: Chua Dao Trang Thon Yen Buddhist temple, on the way back ( 3555 Dryden Ave). Lunch: Ginger Cafe (8657 San Ysidro). Contact Roger Abe for further information. Spring Reading “Haiku at Home”, organized by Roger Abe, with Dōjin Patricia Machmiller, Emiko Miyashita, Hiroyuki Murakami, Phillip Kennedy, and the newly appointed Dōjin Roger Abe, Mimi Ahern, Johnnie Johnson Hafernik, Linda Papanicolaou, Neal Whitman, Alison Woolpert, and J. Zimmerman. Also featured will be a reading of the nijuin Bay Nuts, composed by YTHS renku jin Roger Abe, Linda Papanicolaou, Carol Steele, and J.Zimmerman; Bay Nuts received a second place award in the Haiku Society of America’s 2022 Bernard Lionel Einbond renku contest. To accommodate our Dōjin readers in Japan, this meeting will take place at 5:00 PM PDT. |
