joan iversen goswell

mellow sax
a cloud releases
the man in the moon

snapdragons—
hearing the sound
of mother’s sandals
steamy night
on the horizon
silent brambles of lightning

the blizzard—
it covered everything with
a mother’s hush
snake swallowing
a toad headfirst
the twisted vines

dragonfly
        riding a dragonfly
                riding the wind
singing to himself
an old man wanders through
a field of fireflies

alone
the blizzard’s
hiss
spring thaw
the river takes
the river away

ice storm
the great oak
succumbs
