Covid Protocols

Covid Protocols for 2025 YTHS Events

YTHS wants to be considerate of our community and protect the well-being of all participants in our events. Concern for older members, individuals with medical problems and other limitations, and varying vaccine statuses, have shaped our guidelines and event requirements.

Meeting spaces for the events have been selected to decrease the risks for the transmission of Covid and other respiratory illnesses. Attention has been given to room size, seat spacing, ventilation, limits on attendee numbers and seating while eating. N95 masks will be provided.

We request that participants:

  1. Stay home if you are sick with fever, cough, congestion, diarrhea, headache, etc. Some events will have a Zoom attendance option.
  2. Practice respiratory etiquette by covering coughs and sneezes and cleaning/sanitizing your hands regularly and before and after eating.
  3. Stay up to date with Covid vaccinations and boosters (as tolerated).
  4. Self-test with a rapid Covid test before attending an event in-person, as you could be infected without showing symptoms.

Here is current information about the three events to help you decide how best to participate:

  • May Spring Reading: at The Works, San Jose, with light refreshments, in-person and Zoom options, 3-hour event. Room size 1100 sq feet, windowless but with a “sophisticated” HVAC system. Limited in-person attendance.
  • Spring Leininger Center 50th Anniversary Dinner: sit down dinner, hopefully outdoors, 4-hour event.  Very large, high-ceilinged room, well-ventilated.
  • Fall Retreat at Asilomar: 4 days, 3 nights, communal meals. Surf and Sand meeting room is 850 sq ft. which allows only a 3 ft radius around each person. We are working to improve ventilation in the room with air purifiers.  Masks will be worn except when speaking to the group, eating, or if a disability interferes with wearing a mask. N95/KN95 masks will be provided.
